Sign up Process
- Scroll to the bottom of http://www.midwestfilipinos.org and click “Create new account”.
- Fill out the registration page.
- Note: You can log in with either a screen name or email address.
- You will get an email saying that your account is pending approval.
- You will get a second email after you have been approved with a link to reset your password. Click that link.
- Reset your password, and you’re done.
All the controls are at the very bottom of the site. See Create and Manage section for details.
Adding Your Tweets to the Site
- Sign in
- Scroll to the bottom and click “My Account”
- Click the edit tab
- Click Twitter accounts
- Type in your username and password for Twitter and hit save.
Migrating Existing Mailing List to MAFA Newsletter System
Why?
You might ask why it’s even necessary to transfer your list-serv from your existing system to MAFA. For one thing, it will make it easier for people looking to get involved with the Filipino community to subscribe to your mailing list.
- It’s easy. You can transfer all your contacts from your current system to the MAFA website in a matter of minutes.
- The new MAFA website provides a single page that allows users to subscribe to all the schools affiliated with MAFA. http://www.midwestfilipinos.org/newsletters
- People will be able to unsubscribe by clicking on a link attached to the bottom of the email.
How?
- Export your existing mailing list as CSV (comma separated values)
- Email it to me (felixflores@gmail.com) subject “Mailing-list list for [your school]" (if you want to specify a return address, let me know in the email.)

- First, go to your contact list and export it as CSV (comma separated values).
- Open the .csv file with excel or your preferred spreadsheet application.
- Cut the email column and paste it into a new spreadsheet.
- Save the new spreadsheet as .csv file.
- Open the .csv with notepad (or textedit on Mac) and copy it
- Go to: http://www.midwestfilipinos.org/admin/content/simplenews/users/import
- Paste in the contents of the .csv file into the textbox on the page.
- Select the schools in which you want to subscribe those email addresses and hit “Subscribe”
- Email me the return address if you want.
// Create
- Blog: Web entries describing updates of events or the status of an organization at a University.
- Newsletter Issue: similar to a “Blog” entry, but the entries made are sent out to a particular mailing list. Either a specific school or the MAFA newsletter in general.
- Event: hosted events by an organization affiliated with MAFA (general meetings and other minor events).
- Special Events: similar to an “Event” entry but is meant for larger events such as the MAFA conference, concerts, and charity banquets.
- Image(s): Upload multiple photos into the media section (max. 100 images per post)
- Embed Media: Media from websites such as Youtube, Flickr, etc.
- School Information: Each school can post general information about their school and can be viewed in the school section.
// Manage
- Comments: moderate comments. You can either unpublish the comment (for later review) or delete it completely.
- Content: delete and edit all the contents of the website from one location; filter by content type; filter by category
- Users: Manage users by assigning roles and approving blocked users after verifying the legitimacy of their application to the site.
- My Account: Manage your account; change password; add twitter accounts; set time zone; get a list of all the content you have contributed
- Subscriptions: Manage subscriptions to your school’s newsletter.
