Last year, FACT took an in-depth focus on delegates’ self-identities. This year, FACT will hope to reach delegates beyond their self-proclaimed identities and connect with delegates’ passions. By doing so, we hope to bring about a personal revolution within our conference attendees by illustrating that those identities and passions mean nothing if there is not an underlying purpose behind them. More specifically, the first step is to know who you are. (I am ____.) The second is to know what you are passionate about. (I love _____.) The last step is to figure out how to live life with purpose by not wasting that gained self-knowledge (I will _____.)

Our theme, “Our People’s Power”: identity | passion | purpose, hopes to inspire our delegates to do just that. We want to draw inspiration from the People Power Revolution and honor the historical event that led to Corazon Aquino’s peaceful rise to power. Known as “the revolution that surprised the world,” the nonviolent revolution would not have happened if 2,000,000 Filipino citizens did not decide to protest the government. If it were not for that purpose to fight a corrupt government, nothing would have changed.

FACT will take place over the course of one weekend and aims to engage its delegates during three types of workshops based on identities, passions, and purposes. The conference day will culminate in a variety show where our attendees will have an opportunity to showcase their talents.

Please follow FACT’s progress on both TWITTER (PSAFACT09) and our BLOG (www.fact09.org). We also want to make this conference YOURS, so be sure to check out the blog for interactive posts and a forum in the near future.

Hi everyone,

The 17th annual FACT conference is two months away and it's time to start seeking interest for the FACT variety show. Below is a message from Ariel Hugh, our v-show coordinator. Please read it through carefully and if you / your organization / or anyone else you know is interested in performing, shoot an e-mail to factvshow@psauiuc.org by Thursday, September 10.

Thanks guys!

Hello,

Let me begin by introducing myself. My name is Ariel Hugh and I am this year’s FACT Variety Show coordinator.

You are receiving this e-mail because your organization has either performed at v-show in the past or has expressed interest in performing. However, this e-mail does not mean that your group or organization will automatically have a spot in the show. First, you must all understand the rules and requirements. Secondly, I will need your (group) name, school, a brief description and sample of a similar past performance (ie: mp3, YouTube video, etc.) before you can be approved.

If you are interested in performing, please acknowledge the following:

All performers must attend at least two workshops. Workshop attendance will be checked before the show and if this requirement is not fulfilled, I will not hesitate to pull your act. There are four opportunities to attend workshops: a general session and three workshops. I would like to emphasize that the focus of the F.A.C.T. conference is the workshops, and not the variety show or afterset. WE encourage you to take advantage in attending as many workshops as possible. After all, it's free!

The demand to perform in the variety show has increased over the years. Unfortunately, I cannot accept every act I get. Along with this, each act will be given a limited amount of performance time, which will be determined depending on the number of acts in the show. Since this is a variety show, the number of types of performances will also be limited. For instance, the show will not consist of 80% hip-hop routines, 10% singing performances and 10% cultural performances. The ratio will be decided on once I get a better idea of who wants to perform so don’t wait to send in an e-mail.

Like previous years, performers will be charged a $5 admission. Foellinger Auditorium is an expensive venue, and I feel it is only fair to charge performers because they make up a large percentage of the audience.

Acts approved for the show will soon receive a separate e-mail. Please e-mail me at factvshow@psauiuc.org by Thursday, September 10 if you are interested in performing (this includes anyone interested in singing the national anthems).

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to e-mail me and I will gladly get back to you. I look forward to meeting and working with all of you in the near future.

Thank You,
Ariel Hugh
